King Mackerel Fishing

Destin’s top deep sea fishing excursion

The King Mackerel is a species of the mackerel that migrates to the western Atlantic Ocean as well as the Gulf of Mexico. These fish are typically between 5 and 30 pounds and have been known to grow as big as 90 pounds.

Their coloration typically consists of olive hues on their back that fades to white on their belly. While these fish most commonly occur between 40 and 150 foot depths, the larger ones can occur inshore, in inlets and harbors, including depths near the edge of the Gulf Stream.

King Mackerels are carnivorous and can prey on a variety of things dependent on their size, location and season. King Mackerels are known in the fishing world as prized game fish because of their incredible speed at which they can match that of their distant relative, the Wahoo.

When fishing for King Mackerels it is important to note that they often bite the tail end of the bait. To compensate for this you need to use two hooks, one on each end.

The best months to fish for King Mackerels are between May and October. If you have always wanted to catch your prized King Mackerel then don’t hesitate to call us and set up your fishing adventure.
